Run from the middle

This drill works on transition from defence to attack.

It works on your team firstly switching the ball in the defence, and then quickly playing a ball down the line to a forward making a run towards the sideline.

It is very important that players are aware of why this is happening, and that the player in possession is able to play the long ball down the sideline.

The forward making the run from the middle, must resist the temptation to come “short” looking for an easy pass, and instead move towards the goal. This is much harder to defend, and an accurate pass can take the defender out of the game.
